Hello there, I hope you’re having an awesome day. This is the review of the Dell XPS L322X 13 inch Notebook Laptop. Specs Intel Core – i5-3437U 1.9GHz 4GB ram (max up to 8GB) 5+ hours battery life Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics
Now this is among the 1st Dell XPS notebook laptop, if not the 1st of its kind. It comes with Windows 7 pre-installed, but I have it upgraded to Windows 10, because, why not?
First off, it weighs 1.3kg or 2.91 lbs and is 18mm (0.71) in height, 316mm (12.44) in width and 205mm (8.07) in depthLet’s talk specs. This unit comes with an Intel Core i5 processor with integrated graphics, 4GB of ram, a 13 inch full HD screen and a 128GB of mSATA SSD.
For the design, it’s pretty slim and quite small. There is no optical drive slot… so lemme just point it out. Which is expected of a 13 inch laptop.
The power port, USB Type-A port and the headphone jack on the right. A mini display port, a 2nd USB Type-A port and the battery indicator. Some will complain, that there’s no HDMI or Ethernet port, but we have dongles for that online everywhere.
The battery indicator is pretty neat cos you don’t always have to turn on the machine to know how much battery life is left. With a 55 Watt capacity battery, you’re expecting to have closed to 5 hours of watching videos and light use. The AC Adapter is not too big nor distracting. Outputting about 45 Watts of power, you can top up your battery quickly in case it dies on you. It seems everything with this laptop is tiny and portable.
The back has the flashy reflective DELL logo and I love the matte finish on it.
Up front, we have the the XPS logo at the bottom on the screen.
Speaking of the screen, it’s a 13inch 1080p display with no pen or touch input. It supports a max resolution at 1366 x 768 (32bit @ 60Hz), not the fastest refresh rate but, we’re already use to 60Hz by now.
Watching movies in 1080p looks great, in case you don’t mind the bad viewing angles of the that makes it hard to see from the sides, you’re good to go. Then again, I don’t think you’ll intentionally tilt the screen to view anything on it.
I like the placement of the power button. Just flushed in on the side of the laptop, right next to the keyboard. This makes it less intrusive when typing..
The keyboard is also easy to type on. I felt I was a bit faster than when I typed on my older N5050. Sad thing is, the keyboard is much smaller. I have small hands and fingers, alright, but even this is a little bit too much for me. They’re quiet and have a nice comfy feel when pressing each key. I love the fact that it is backlight, so if you like typing in the dark for some reason, this is pretty handy for you. I don’t like the shape and size of the navigation or arrow keys. But I believe it’s still better than having the left and right key larger than the top and bottom ones.
The touchpad is quite small as well but it works without flaws. It also supports gestures for scrolling and swiping. My only complaints are with the unsatisfying clicks when using the left and right buttons.
For the speakers, they are just located at the top of the keyboard, and they fire directly to the screen. Although I can’t really show you guys so much here, but it’s within this black area you see here. Here’s how it sounds though. Honestly, is not that impressive, you’ll probably have to connect an external speaker to enjoy your movies and games.
And for the fans, they really get loud on a heavy CPU load. Oh yeah, excuse the background music. Loud neighbours.
It is running on Intel Core i5-3437U CPU @ 1.90GHz which can be maxed up to 2.40GHz. Gladly, it supports the 64bit Operating System since it’s an x64-base processor.
Laptops with this form factor, usually run on x86- base processors which are quite annoying to since, you’ll always have to be looking out for the 32bit version of every software.
Funny enough, when I realized, it had Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 4GB of ram, I was very curious to know how it runs when playing games. My dell N5050 has the same screen resolution and runs on the Intel(R) HD 3000 and it struggles to play BLUR, so I installed it on this one too to test it out. Everything was done and I launched the game and waited, and waited and waited. I have not slowed this video down in any way, but it got annoying. So I closed it up and relaunched. And waited… then I closed it up and forgot about it.
The 1.3MP webcam is OK? Who am I kidding? It’s terrible. I don’t get why manufacturers won’t get use smartphone cameras for laptop webcam?
Talking of upgradability, you can spec this up to 8GB of ram.
I also saw this compartment at the bottom, where I thought, was an easy access to the ram, turned out to be just for some dell sticker with some other info on there. You can take out these 10 screws at the bottom to access the inner components. I think there are extra screws underneath that compartment area, I just spoke of.
For the price, unfortunately, I couldn’t get the exact pricing as of now, recording this video. But as soon as I do, I’ll pin it down in the comments below.
If you want the Core i7 (4th Gen) 4500U / 1.8 GHz, 8GB, touchscreen, 256GB of SSD, with Intel HD Graphics 4400
