Hello there, I hope you’re having an awesome day I had my hands on the Infinix S5 for a day to test it out, but is it any good? Let’s find out in this video. This is a review of the Infinix S5.
So this phone weighs in at 178 g (6.28 oz), just 3g heavier than the Infinix Hot 8 Lite I did a review about a while back.
So for the build, we’re looking at an entirely plastic phone with a glass screen. This is very typical with phones within this price range.
We also have the usual design and ports placements, with the speaker, micro USB port and earphone jack on the bottom.
The sim tray with dual sim and SD card supports, and volume rockers and power button are on the left and right, respectively.
The screen is an IPS LCD at 6.6 inches. Still on a 720 x 1600 pixels. So don’t stress yourself trying to watch 1080p YouTube videos on this device. The screen resolution, shape and size is very similar to the Infinix Hot 8 Lite. Only difference is the front facing camera cutout.
And just like the Hot 8 Lite, the bottom here is also covered with black, just to give it this curve edges look. At the top are the earpiece speaker and a hole punch cutout for the selfie camera. Forgive the screen protector design. Notice how their default wallpaper goes dark around that area? It’s funny how manufacturers go the extra to try and cover the camera cutout up.
On the back is an AI quad camera setup and a quad LED flash. This vertical placement of the LED flash also looks nice. It follows the camera setup trend, so no complaints here.
And oh, for some reason, Infinix does not include the in display fingerprint sensor yet. So the sensor still on the back. I have kinda gotten used to it mmom. Also, the fact that this phone is a year older now, it shouldn’t be a problem. In display fingerprint sensors are like 2020 stuff.
The glossy reflective nature of this blue back is quite appealing to the eyes, I must say. It’s so reflective that you can literally see my camera in there.
Besides the fingerprint sensor is a face unlock system which I’ll keep saying, with Infinix and Techno, I don’t trust them.
For the spec geeks out there, it’s running Infinix own XOS Cheetah v5.5.2 on Android 9.0 Pie with a mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 chipset. The same exact chipset as the Techno Camon 12. More on that video, up here and in the description.
A 4000mAh battery, with 4GB ram, 64GB storage or 6GB ram, 128GB storage. If you’re old to this channel, you’ll notice I never do Antutu Benchmarks or Geek Benches, I believe you should actually use the phone to experience how it feels to own one.
The selfie camera is a 32MP front facing camera with a 26mm wide view. It’s nice for wide front facing shots. So if you have a lot of people with you in the frame, you shouldn’t have any problem getting them all in the shot. Here’s how the video quality is, at 1080p, 30fps
The rear cameras include a 16MP main camera, 5MP, 14mm ultrawide and 2MP depth sensor. Remember I said, quad camera setup? That’s what is written, literally on the back of the phone. But there’s nothing on it. No specs, no camera quality, no MP. But then, there’s the filter option in the camera app. So my guess is, that’s what the 4th camera is for. You may or may not remember the extra camera for the colour filter, one plus included in the 8 pro. I feel, Infinix is trying something similar here.
The main camera takes way decent photos as compared to the ultrawide. And for some reason, there is a severe colour shift when you change lenses.
What I don’t get is why the main rear camera is 16MP and the front facing one is 32MP. Are they saying selfies are more important? Lemme know in the comments below if you agree with them.
Anyway, video recording is also 1080p@30fps on both the main and ultrawide cameras, and here’s how they look.
Mind you, you still can’t start recording on the main lens and switch to the ultrawide and vice versa. The only way, is to stop the video, switch and press record again.
I like about this phone
Awesome front facing camera, 4G connectivity, Massive screen, massive battery and the large storage capacity.
Since, it doesn’t record in 4K, your storage shouldn’t run out anytime soon.
Oh yeah, and they add this nice clear case, right in the box.
Things I dislike
720p resolution, terrible rear cameras, ultrawide camera colour shifts, and the annoying Ads, even on the operating system and system apps.
So for GHc 830, who is this phone for?
I believe if you’re someone who isn’t really picky picture or video quality or that interested in taking ultrawide shots, then this is the phone for you.
