Opening up the box is another clear white box with the console and all other accessories. I was fortunate enough to test this out with 3 different games, Unchartered, Need for Speed Heat and Marvel’s Spiderman.
In the first compartment are the controller, HDMI cable and power cord. There’s also a custom Sony earpiece and micro USB charger for the controller. Some Sony PS4 Guides and User Manual. And finally, the console itself in this egg crate-like shell.
For the design, the PS4 console comes in at 26.5cm (10.4 inches) wide and 28.8cm (11.3 inches) long and 3.9 cm (1.5 inches) thick. It also weighs in about 2.08kg (4.6 lbs).
Up front, is the power button in this rounded rectangle design and the eject button for the disks, with 2 USB 3.0 ports separated neatly on the side.
On the left are some branded logos, with what looks like a heatsink and the compartment for the HDD, which we’ll get to in a second.
The right has the same heatsink design and a threaded hole cleverly placed in the Circle Icon on the PS controller design layout. This allows you to attach a stand to it if you so choose. (Sold separately)
The top and bottom both share the same Play Station logo, but the button also includes the symbols as mini stand in case you want place it flat on the surface.
And on the back, is the power, AUX, HDMI out and LAN ports. And to the extreme right, is the pop case, which allows you to gain access to the HDD. Once you get that out of the way, you would have to remove just 1 screw and then take out the hard disk. The screw itself has the symbols branding all over. I will recommend, upgrading to an SDD, cos why not?
For Specs, we are looking at an 8 core x86 AMD Jaguar processor with Radeon Graphics Core Next Engine. With 8GB of GDDR5 ram with 500GB or a TB of storage.
I must say, the graphics look awesome. Even though, this is a recording of an actual screen. I’m sure you can tell how detailed the graphics are. At 1080p, I felt no lags in the any gameplay.
After gaming from 20 to 30 mins, the console gets warmer. But I still didn’t notice any drop in gameplay. So that’s a good thing.
So back to the question at the beginning of this video. Should you get one?
Between GHc 1800 and GHc 2000, for the based model at 500GB of storage, it is a great idea to get one now. If you’re lucky, you could get some 2nd hand ones on tonaton for GHc 1000. I’m not recommending you do, though. And for the fact that most PS5 games are backwards compactible to the PS4, why not?
But then again, note that games on Play Station are still expensive for someone like me. I’m almost not always going to be willing to pay between GHc 300 and GHc 500 for a single game disk or an extra controller.
Same way, there are some awesome games like, God of War, Spiderman, Uncharted, The last of us, Bloodborne and so, that are only available to play station and play station alone. You won’t find them on PCs or Xboxes. So that’s something to also consider.
