This is a review of the Techno Spark 4. Coming in at GHc 600, well, 590 to be exact, is it worth your money? Well, let’s find out
For the design, we have a single firing speaker, a micro USB charging port, a single mic for mono audio recording, and a 3.5mm head jack at the bottom.
The left has the sim and SD card slot. The volume rockers on the right with the power button just beneath it.
We have the front-facing camera at the center of this waterdrop display
Speaking of the display. It’s a 60Hz IPS LCD screen at 6.52 inches. Also 720 x 1600px. But has a 20:9aspect ratio with 269 ppi density.
This is quite okay, given the fact that the Infinix S5, closed to GHc 830, the Infinix Hot 8 Lite also worth GHc 700, the Techno Camon 12, worth Ghc 800 or so, are all using the same exact display as this, and for even a much lower price.
All these phones I mentioned are linked below in case you want to know more about them.
For specs, we’re looking at the Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22, clocked in at 1.8 GHz for the CPU, and PowerVR GE8320 for the GPU. All running on Android 9.0 Pie and Techno’s own HiOS 5.5.
There’s 32GB of internal storage and 2GB ram with Dual nano sim support. It also has support for fast data transfer via eMMC 5.1.
And a 4000mAh non-removal battery
These are not the most powerful specs in the world, but for light gaming sessions, it will handle them quite well. Just don’t get too excited and try to play PubG on this.
And the 2GB of ram is not enough to keep multiple apps or games in the background.
At the back are the fingerprint sensor and a triple camera setup with a dual-LED flash. I must say, I love the royal and sea blue gradient finish on the back. It’s still plastic though but doesn’t get too slippery.
The fingerprint sensor is not as fast and fails to recognize my finger a lot. Even when it’s directly on it.
There’s also the option to use the face unlock feature, but like I always say, please don’t.
Now on the subject of the cameras, please don’t let the triple camera setup name or hype fool you. The main rear camera is an 8MP lens and some extra two lenses for the depth camera and the macro camera, which no one ever uses. I couldn’t find the exact MP count on both lenses, but my guess will be a 2MP for the depth sensor and a 0.3MP for the macro camera
Honestly, the extra 2 cameras are just trash. I think because most people want to see more cameras on their phone so Techno just added them so they can say, of hey, it’s a triple camera phone.
If you even take a closer look, you can see that the lenses are so small and insignificant. They are much like the cameras we get from a GHc 50 yam phone.
The pictures from the main lens are super wide in 20:9 full screen and slightly overexposed too. I didn’t even have HDR turned on.
The colours are also not so ideal for me, and the images look flat in my opinion. Closer shots look better in Bokeh Mode, but for black objects, there will be some underexposed shadows.
Videos are in 1080@3fps and here’s how it looks
For the front-facing camera, we also have an 8MP lens which takes decent selfies as long as you’re still. Any tiny movements or glitters will be noticeable. And you can see that in this image. It also comes with some funny filters in case you’re into that.
The front-facing camera records videos in 1080p@30fps as well
Right out of the box, you get this nice cover case, which is my favourite so far. Not because it’s red and black, obviously, but the texture on the back feels like leather.
There aren’t so many things I like about this phone
Besides the 4G connectivity and dual nano sim support with SD card support, that’s basically it.
And oh, the shortcut to recent apps is also nice, but then again, there are 3rd party apps that can do the exact same thing. So, it’s not a huge deal
What I don’t like
No OTG (On-The-Go) support
The HiOS on Android isn’t the smoothest skin for an android. It becomes lags at times.
And if that’s not enough for you. It also comes with a lot of bloatware applications any annoying ads. Similar to every Infinix and Techno phone I’ve reviewed so far.
