Battery life |
At the top of the device is the Single nano sim card slot or a hybrid dual nano sim support and the top microphone. The volume rockers on the left side, power button the right, then the speaker micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, yes, we still have those.
At the front, are the sensors, earpiece speaker and the single front facing camera. No cutouts then. Then, the not-so-massive screen.
Then finally, on the back are the camera, LED flash and the heartrate sensor, if anyone uses that anymore with some Samsung branding. Yes, the back will shutter if it falls hard enough, cos its glass, but I like the look.
And yes, most people will be buying this or even bought this cos of this beautiful curved Super AMOLED screen. Which in today’s standard, won’t be that appreciated that much, with that, 5.5 inches at 76.1% screen-to-body ratio
Yet, funny enough, it comes with a resolution 1440 x 2560px, 16:9 aspect ratio at 534 ppi density.
534? Even now, it still sounds huge to me.
Side note, watching Marques’ video on youtube, which he uploads in 4K, for some reason only showed up, up to 720p for me. While, in my videos, which I upload in 1080p shows up as 1080p. Hmm
And Samsung likes this curved display so much that, it has lasted for a couple more generations of the S lineup. They even baked features in the software, that will make use of it.
Android 6.0 mashmallow, upgradable to 8.0 oreo, with touchwiz UI
A snapdragon 820 chip for American version or the exynos 8890 for the rest of the world
With 32,64 or 128GB of storage, 4GB RAM on all models
And an SD card support, but for only the dual sim variant
These chips are still faster than some of today’s budget line of phones, even from most of Samsung’s own A and M series list of phones.
Multitasking on this, comes with no issues. And even gaming, didn’t come with any problems
Unfortunately, though, with the small 3000 mAh battery, your social media time and gaming sessions aren’t going to last as long as you would want them.
The Home button, which still exists also serves at the Fingerprint scanner for your thumb for security.
Setting up in pretty quick and straightforward in less than a minute, and it works just as well. You can add up to a maximum of 5 fingers, I believe, sorry, I didn’t crosscheck this. But all the same, it sounds awesome.
The unlock the device is as simple as pressing the home button. And since your thumb is already resting on the Home/Fingerprint scanner, it turns on the screen, scan your finger and unlock the device, all in an instant
Alright then, let’s talk about the cameras. Just 2 though, on the entire device. Like, the entire device, both front and back, 2 cameras
The rear camera, is a 12MP, f1.7, 26mm wide lens, with dual pixel autofocus and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization)
LED flash, auto HDR which take decent enough photo and shoots up to 4K, 30 frames per second, 1080@60fps and 720p@240fps.
And since we also get that microphone at the top, it records video with stereo sound as well.
The video quality is as expected of a flagship phone, but I did notice some slight warping effect on the edges of the video when shooting in 1080p with OIS turned on. And unfortunately, 4K video recording has no form of image stabilization.
With the Selfie camera, we get a 5MP, f1.7, 22mm wide lens with HDR support. Is it great for selfies, honestly no. I’ve seen Tecno do better with their Phantom 9. But then again, Tecno’s phone is quite recent.
So, at the time of recording this video, with the specs available for this particular unit, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge cost GHc 800
So, the device is all metal and glass, which weighs in at 157g (5.54 oz). We have Gorilla Glass 4 on both the front and the back, with an aluminum frame for the edges. Samsung pay (visa and Mastercard certified). IP 68 dust and water-resistant up to 1.5m for 30mins. We’re getting off with a good start.
At the top of the device is the Single nano sim card slot or a hybrid dual nano sim support and the top microphone. The volume rockers on the left side, power button the right, then the speaker micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, yes, we still have those.
