The price for this is GHc 690, so have that in mind throughout this review
Taking a look at the phone you can see that it is very beautiful. I like this gradient dark and light colour on the back. It’s made of polycarbonate so don’t get confused cos it looks like it’s glass with this shining and reflective frame but it’s just plastic
At the bottom of the device are the speakers, the micro USB and the headphone jack. The SIM card and the microSD card slot are on the left. There are no ports on the top and then finally, on the right we have the power button and the volume rockers. I love this red accent on the power button. It also has some form of texture to it so you always know when you are touching the power button instead of the volume rockers.
There’s a quad camera, quad LED flash and the fingerprint scanner and also an encryption, designed by tecno at the bottom.
For the display, we get a massive IPS LCD screen which is 6.6 inches diagonally, with a resolution of 720 by 1600 px. The screen is also a 20 x 9 aspect ratio, so it’s wide enough.
The phone is also quite responsive running HiOS 6.1 on Android 10.
It comes with 64 GB of internal storage and 3 GB of RAM or you can opt for the 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage both with 4 GB of RAM. All powered by a massive 5000mAh battery.
Tecno also included the game mode on this one which I already spoken about in the tecno camon 15 and Phantom 9 review in case you’re interested in watching that, links below. But basically, the game mode allows you to close up most background applications so you can better optimise the phone for gaming.
So, for gaming everything runs smoothly without any issues of course. I doubt you would be playing Subway Surfer on this, but that is my default game for testing out the gaming performance of every smartphone.
When playing games, I noticed the speakers, excuse me, the single bottom firing speaker wasn’t loud enough and does distort a lot at max volume.
For the camera interface, we have a bunch of options from AI cam, bokeh mode and beauty mode which I doubt I’ll be using anytime soon.
The rear cameras include a 16MP main camera, a 2MP macro and depth camera. There is no actual megapixel count for the fourth camera which I still don’t get why they would even add it to the first place.
Pictures from the rear looks about as good as any phone can get. But don’t expect too much here.
For videos, it shoots at 1080p, 30fps, and here’s how it looks and sounds like.
There is also slow-motion video, which I have to confess, is my 1st time seeing on a tecno device. Maybe, it’s there, but I haven’t taken notice. The video’s resolution, is 480 x 640 which is mostly unusable. But I guess, if its just for uploading on social media or you just want to use them for gifs, then you can. Anything about from that, get an iPhone instead. And also, unlike the iPhone, the final video is already slowed down. For the reason, I couldn’t tell how many framerates it shoots per second.
For the front, we have a single 8MP, f2.0 wide selfie camera
The pictures from the selfie camera are okay in my opinion. Not too warm like the iPhone X, but it misses out in sharpness. Everything is in focus and makes the images, uninteresting.
This is about the worse selfie; I’ve taken so far.
Video recording also at 1080p, 30fps
For security, we have Face Unlock. Hope, I don’t have to remind you guys not to use it, right?
The fingerprint scanner on the back is just fine for unlocking. It is mostly accurate, about 85 to 90% if you have clean fingers of course. And the speed is just as fast as any budget phone could get.
Another feature from tecno which they have been including a lot of their smartphones is this edge overlay for your recent or most used apps. I don’t think I’ll be using them as much, but that’s just me. Sadly, for them, some third-party apps do the exact same thing and even better in some situations, but if you’re into that you can also use this feature.
So GHc 690, hmm, if I had that much and thought to go for the Spark 5, I would spend that little extra to get the Pro instead. Or better still, I would consider the Samsung A11
