This phone, tab, this android device cost GHc 400 (~$70). Let’s keep that in mind throughout this review
At first glance, this looks more of a toy, than an actual device. The whole colour scheme of purple and green is cool cos it’s for kids. Even the startup animation is childish, which is to be expected.
At front are two front facing speakers on either side, a camera in the middle, then right at the bottom are 3 buttons, volume up, power button and volume down button.
At the back is the X-TIGI branding and the storage and ram specification right at the bottom, with the rear camera right at the top.
The device is made entirely of plastic. The green part you see here are breakable plastics so, to help protect it, are these purple cocks on all 4 corners. One side acts as the sim and micro SD card slots, headphone jack and micro USB for charging.
The screen is a 7-inch screen, which is also covered in plastic. Now worries here, when you kid decides to smash the front of the device into pieces. Since there are no glass, they won’t injure themselves in doing so. The screen is also bright enough to few outdoors without any issues.
There is also a huge earpiece up top or to the extreme right, if you hold it in landscape mode, which you can use for phone calls. I’m trying to imagine how I would look making business calls on this on the street. I wouldn’t of course, but I could, if I wanted to. Speaking of calls, there is a microphone at the other side where you voice will naturally be picked up when using this.
It supports dual sim + expandable storage via micro SD card up to 32GB. Running on Android 8.1 GO edition, with 16GB storage 1GB RAM and a 3500mAh battery. That part, I don’t quite get. A big device like this could easily hold, I don’t know 10,000mAh battery. But we don’t get that.
For the cameras, we get a 0.3MP front facing camera for stills and videos. They are not good looking. Like, at all.
We also get a 2MP rear camera which is better than the selfie camera, but still terrible. I don’t get why they put this HDR text here. It’s obvious that, there’s no HDR support on this.
Call it bloatware or useful apps, but this device comes with a few. The one I had opened here is a story app which talks about ants. There’s one about butterflies and more. But my favourite bloatware, I mean useful app will be the piano. Good old days.
So GHc 400, will I recommend this. Honestly, I don’t know. The Samsung A2 Core phone about the same price, and it has more than enough functions and specs as compared to this. But also, it’s tiny and your kid will probably just toss it in the toilet. Unlike this 7-inch tablet, this wouldn’t fit.
So, if you’re getting this for your 3 to 7-year-old child, then, it’s definitely worth the money. They can watch their favourite Cocomelon episodes on it without you, sacrificing your phone all the time. The battery could have been bigger to last an entire day, but unfortunately, not everything works the way we want.
