Which app is better for Video Creators

September 13, 2021 by theyolarbi Behind the Scences, Videos from Theyo Larbi

So, for the past 2 to 3 weeks, I have been constantly uploading to videos 3 social media platforms that are solely made for video creator. I’m talking of course, about Likee, VSkit and Tiktok. Why, you ask? Well, just to see which of these platforms promotes creators the most. Want to know how it turned out? Well, let’s find out…

Yes, these aren’t the only social media platform for videos, I know. But, the more reason why I chose these is that, unlike others, you don’t really need a strong following to get your videos out there.  Take YouTube Shorts, Facebook Watch or Instagram Reels, no one finds your videos except your subscribers or followers. Or unless someone stumbles upon them in the discovery tab or something.

Also, I heard that if you record directly from the app rather than recording in your camera and then uploading later, your views go up. Again, it makes sense, cos the app encourages and promotes videos made using their filters and the likes. I don’t know if that’s true though, but I did just that.

Any video I recorded using these apps, I tried to make them as closed to similar as possible. I also used native sounds and songs within that respective app. Even used their own recommended captions.

The first video I started out with, was a video of my room.

Uploaded on each platform and waited. After 24 hours, I opened up Tiktok and I had 121 views, Likee had 145 and VsKit had 5181 views. Huh? Eeerhm OK? Let’s look at the next upload

This is a video of a Photobook for some clients. After a day, 4419 views on Vskit, 126 views on Tiktok and on Likee, it got 1 view. I think that view was from myself.

Next video was the one with Maabena for her birthday. 214 views on Vskit, 91 on Likee and 1 view on Tiktok.

Next video was a video I shot at a wedding. It was more like a b-roll shot of a decoration with some artificial flowers on a table. 6141 views on Vskit, 98 on Likee, and 97 on Tiktok. Ooooh, close call.

So, as you can clearly see, I didn’t really have a specific pattern of videos that I was posting. Just random videos to see which ones got more reactions.

The next video was when I discovered Hollandia Yoghurt in the kitchen cabinet. Tiktok had 138 views, vs Likee’s 259 views and Vskit? Vskit had 1 view. Wait, that can’t be right. How it the app, that had been leading all this while, lose like that?

A bridal makeup got 1 view on Likee, 117 views on Tiktok and 547 views on Vskit.

A video of Kinaata meeting up with some female fans at the Royal Ridge Hotel. I think this was during Dr something something’s wedding, that radio presenter. Dr Pound. 6682 views on Vskit, 646 on Likee and 120 views on Tiktok.

My Hollandia video at RansBet Supermarket got 139 views on tiktok, 6521 on Vskit and 529 on Likee

Oh yeah, this is a funny one. So, I was back in wangarakrom, where I teach and it was closing, right? So, usually we get the kids to say the Lord’s Prayer before they leave for home. And one of the kids in decided to pray like this. He was just moving up and about with his eyes still shut. I thought it was funny. Anyway, that got 8211 views on Vskit, 1 view on Likee and 124 views on Tiktok.

The last video was at a wedding in Takoradi. Shot by PDY Weddings and as I was recording videos, I realised some kids wear dancing outside of the reception premises. Guess what I did. I left my job to go record the kids. That video got 506 views on Vskit, 2 views on Tiktok and 113 views on Likee. Honestly speaking, the people at the wedding were eating at that moment and we had a camera on the tripod filming. So, I was basically, standing there, doing nothing. We take our work seriously, all jokes aside.

So, in all, as Likee and Tiktok seems to fight against each other, Vskit becomes the champion here. If you post your videos on Vskit, you’re more likely to meet a bigger audience, right? Well no.

As I went through the likes and comments in each video, they didn’t add up. Videos of my room, got comments like, “this is a life changer”,” truly amazing”, “I hope you upload more often”, “one of the best videos I have ever seen”, “wow that was so GOOD”, “I love it so much”. And funny enough, they were repeating. Sometimes, same comments by different people. Sometimes, similar comments on different posts.

So, in all, Vskit is sort of cheating here. They generate these comments to motivate you and make you want to upload more on their platform. If I had to choose, I would stay go with Tiktok. It is intentionally recognized. Much so, that most of the famous people you can think about are on there. It will still take had work and consistency though, but it will be worth it.
