Abena AI – The update is a lot better
It’s been a week since I uploaded the video on my first impressions of the Abena AI app. In that video, I pointed out a lot of issues with the 1.0 version of the app and why I would not recommend downloading it. Well, this is version 1.1.1, and it’s a lot better. Better enough to get it downloaded, well, let’s find out.
First things first, I want to clearly state that I did not in any way make the first video as most people commented that I did. I believe perhaps I was a little bit too strict with the way it worked, actually, didn’t work in a lot of ways.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who had a bad experience with the earlier version. From a 1-star reviewer who also didn’t like the demo videos at the start of the app. The 2-star reviewer who couldn’t get past typing his nickname. To a 5-star rater who noticed the app was working by itself, sometimes.
Luckily, Nana Ghartey, the creator of the app, commented on the video with some insightful information, but for some reason, I couldn’t find that. I was hoping to pin that as the top comment. Subsequently, YouTube blocks comment with links and email addresses cos of the increasing number of spam comments on videos. So, my guess is YouTube took it down at some point or he probably deleted it himself. The only way I even got to know of this was because someone took a screenshot of the comment and sent it to me, thinking I deleted or blocked that comment for some reason. Alright, I’m glad all that is out of the way.
Anyway, for an assistant, there are a couple of things I typically find myself asking her to do. So, I listed a few down to test version 1.1.1 of the Abena AI app. Per my test, the app can perform a considerable number of basic tasks without the need for the internet, which is something I don’t even get with Google Assistant or Apple’s Siri. But for tasks like checking the weather and the latest news on Twitter, I decided to keep my internet on, for that.
At the launch of the app this time around, I didn’t have to wait those extra seconds to skip the demo videos. It was that instant. The first “Just say ABENA” and “3te s3n” is meant to train the app into recognizing your voice. With time, you wouldn’t have to go through it, each time. To check your airtime though, you’ll need to give Abena permission in the Accessibility tap on your phone’s Settings app. I also went ahead to sign in with my google account so I can experience more of what ABENA can do. After the setup process, you’ll see this dark-themed interface, then you’re good to go.
I think it necessary to make mention of the version so people watching this video at a later date don’t attack me again in the comments. So, with version 1.1.1, here are my 2nd impressions and a few of the tasks I asked ABENA AI to help me out with.
After usage for some time, you would have to leave your feedback on the Google Play store- to continue usage.
So, yeah. I’ll leave you guys to be the judge
